One of the most challenging things about being in business is everyone, from marketers to vendors, claim that they can change or overhaul your business overnight. This just isn’t realistic.
The internet is immensely competitive and will continue to be. Gone are the days of getting there first, with some rare exceptions. And those exceptions cost money. Lots more money than most organizations are willing to spend.
The simple answer is to hone your message into well considered channels, connect to your audience, listen and keep at it. Growth on the internet for most organizations is like investing in a mutual fund. The winners don’t jump all over all over the place like day traders, losing customers for every one they gain. It’s steady, consistent investment in time, thought and careful use of money. It’s the opposite of “death by a thousand cuts.” It’s success by a thousand steps. Anyone can make the first step. The road is littered shoes tossed aside in early defeat.
Think of your business as a person trying to build a relationship with another person. Do you want to hang out with an erratic, over-promising, egomaniac? Nah. Neither do your leads and prospects. They want a real, stable relationship they can count on. Build trust through listening and consistent messages and actions.
It’s success by a thousand steps. Anyone can make the first step. The road is littered with shoes tossed aside in early defeat.
Before you do anything, find out what your customers want and why. Build a great website and spiral out from there steadily and consistently.
